Today we are going to discuss the Indian QRSAM system. India is developing one of these for a long time.
This surface to air missile defense system is developed by DRDO in collaboration with Bharat Electronics LTD and Bharat Dynamics LTD. This surface to air missile defense system is developed for the Indian army. This missile system is all weather and all terrain surface to air missile system. This system is equipped with an electronic countermeasure against the jamming performed by the aircraft. The missile system is mounted on the truck which provides better mobility and missiles are stored in a canister which enhances the missiles shelve life. And the system is easy to reload.
The mother RADAR of this system is ADTCR That is Air Defence Tactical Control Radar. This RADAR system is used for volumetric surveillance and tracking, detection. The radar is capable of detecting even small low flying targets. As a part of the complete system, This radar system provides the data on the priorities of the target. This radar system employs active phase detecting technology with digital beamforming. It has a distributed digital receiver and IFF mark. Like a launcher, the Radar is also mounted on the truck and that is why it has excellent mobility. It can operate from various terrains like land, marsh, desert, and mountain.
Each regiment quick response surface to air missile system as an air defense tactical control radar, this Radar feed the information into the batteries and each battery in this system consists of 4 launchers a command post, and a battery level radar system. This battery level radar is C band Radar which allows the system to work independently or as a part of the large network. This Radar system is capable of tracking on the move and because of that, the real goal of quick reaction that is less reaction time is achieved by this system. let us understand a regiment of quick reaction SAM.
A regiment of QRSAM consists of a regiment level ADTCR this system does a 360-degree scan of the area while scanning the area targets are located and the tracking system starts. The priorities the targets identify and the information I passed to the batteries that are nearest. A regiment of QRSAM has 3 batteries. These batteries are their own command and control post along with a C band RADAR. The battery that nearest to the threat does further scanning and sends the command to engage it. Each battery has 4 launchers and on each launcher 6 missiles. So a regiment is capable of firing 72 missiles at any given point of time.
Thus they can engage 72 targets. These are canisters so reloading is comparatively easy.
